Here is How You Can Use Netflix Party to Binge-Watch with Friends while in Quarantine!

Must read

Here is How You Can Use Netflix Party to Binge-Watch. If somebody asks you, “Will you be my quarantine?”The answer should be a definite yes! Ever since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, governments worldwide are urging people to stay indoors and limit their social interaction to the minimum necessary level. Social distancing is a must if we wish to survive this threat that has landed upon us all, globally. In the U.S. the count of casualties is soaring as a result of COVID-19, compelling people to limit their socialization and stay at home – even work from home – making the streets of New York so eerie quiet, it feels nothing less than dreadful!

Humans are social animals however, they cannot stay indoors for long periods. People are therefore resorting to video and voice calls as a coping mechanism to counter the sense of isolation, or they are binge-watching shows to cut the impact of loneliness. “Video is already 70% of all network traffic,” says Roger Entner, an analyst with Recon Analytics, anticipating the added load on provider networks could become a problem as the quarantine phase continues.

A stable internet connection has become a dire necessity during this period for millions in self-quarantine, making many seek a reliable and fast connection, like one offered by Spectrum Internet. Spectrum provides 100+ Mbps-fast download speeds with no data caps. The speeds furnished by Spectrum are incredible for bandwidth consuming tasks such as streaming, file sharing and downloading, video conference calls, etc.

But after a certain point, all of that does start to feel boring and monotonous because you don’t have anyone to share the experience with. The need to be present with another human, and doing something fun still lacks with all the streaming you indulge in. But luckily to bridge that gap a smart solution from Netflix is at our disposal i.e. Netflix Party!

What is Netflix Party anyway?

Netflix party is a free online extension that lets you binge-watch shows with your friends and family together – physically apart but virtually together. Still, confused? Well, in simple words now there is a way for you to watch Netflix with your loved ones. The best part is you won’t need to coordinate “At the count of three..” to hit the play button, Netflix has a better way to do that for you. Plus, you will have access to chat too, as you watch your Netflix favorites with family and friends. Long story short, you don’t have to mourn the end of fun times, you can still engage with friends while you are quarantined, only from the safety of your home.

How to install?

Very easy! Head over to the Netflix Party website and locate the button that says “Install Netflix Party” or the one that reads “Get Netflix Party for Free.” You don’t have to get confused between the two because they practically mean the same thing. Both offer a free download and will direct you to the same page.

Once you click on the download link, you’ll be directed to Google Chrome Web Store; from there you’d need to install a free extension and add it to Chrome on your device. Free extensions are small browsing programs that help customize your browsing experience, you can link them with Chrome so that they are in sync with related activities that you perform using the browser, which in this case, is watching Netflix.

After you have successfully followed these steps you will see something like this:

And voila! Now you own Netflix Party, how cool is that?

You must have a lot of questions at the moment, so let’s answer all step by step :

  • “How do I know for sure? And will it appear as a short-cut on my desktop?”

No, you won’t get a shortcut on your desktop, and it won’t be installed in the form of an app either. Instead, you’ll see an icon in the top right corner of your Google Chrome Screen, next to the Bookmark star. You’ll find “NP” written there. The extension will only turn red and activate when you visit the Netflix website.

  • “Do I need to have Netflix for this?”

Yes, one of the main reasons it’s called Netflix party is you need access to Netflix in order to party this way. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Netflix subscription, you can sign up for a free one month trial, and hopefully, by then this quarantine situation would have gotten better too. If you like the idea and want to use it in the long-term, you can always buy the Netflix subscription at the end of the trial. It is simple and easy.

  • “Where do I go from here?”

Once you are done with the downloading and installation of the extension, you just have to go to your Netflix account and search for the content you want to watch, whether it’s from Hollywood or Bollywood, a stand-up show or an anime – whatever you like! Just don’t play it yet. After you have found the content you have been looking for, go to the top right corner of your screen, click NP, and select “Start the Party.” When you do that, you’ll be given a link to share with your friends who can then join you in that session. You can choose to keep the control of the Party all to yourself, an option is given to you at the start, and you can also choose a creative name for yourself.

A small chat window would appear on your right where all your group members can talk while watching at the same time.

How To Choose Winter Wear To Enjoy Winter Season?

Through Netflix party, you will be able to fill in the prevalent void of loneliness and lack of social interaction. Enjoy your favorite titles, and share your thoughts and feelings all at the same time.

  • “How can my friends join the session?”

For your friends to join the session, they need to install Netflix Party just as you did. Like this, when you share with them the URL you get by clicking the “Start the Party” button, they will be able to click on the link. Clicking on the shared URL will direct them to the Netflix website via their browser. Now all they have to do to join in is click on the red NP icon in the top right corner of the browser as you did, and voila!

  • “What if I want to leave?”

If something urgent comes up and you have to disconnect, you can just go to the NP icon again and click “Disconnect”. Doing so will disconnect you from the session. It is that easy. Your other friends, however, can keep enjoying the session.

  • “Do my friends need Netflix for this?”

Yes, just like you, any friends that you want to party with, need to have a Netflix subscription. If they do not have one, they can opt for a free trial for a month. This would enable you to watch and have fun together for at least one whole month.
